Loans

The most common form of financial assistance at the graduate level is federal student loans. Please refer to the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid for more information.

Graduate Assistantships for On-Campus Students Only

A few graduate assistantships are available to MBA students each year.

  • Tuition remission of up to 12 credit hours per semester is provided for eligible assistantships during the semester of appointment.
  • Typically require 13 – 20 hours of work per week.
  • Some assistantships may also be available in the summer.
  • Positions are usually filled in the spring semester for the following academic year.

MBA assistantships available for Fall 2013
Graduate Assistantship Opportunity – 2013-2014

The Marketing Department in the College of Business, University of Nebraska–Lincoln is looking for a MBA student with experience or undergraduate degree in marketing for a graduate assistantship for the 2013-2014 academic year.

This assistantship will pay $8,228 for the academic year; along with up to 12 credit hours of resident and non-resident tuition remission per semester plus health insurance (79% of the premium paid by the University). Will require 19.6 hours per week of work. Student must be admitted into a degree program and enrolled as a full-time student.

Primary responsibilities will include assisting Marketing Assistant and Associate Professors of Practice in their courses, grading; meeting with students (office hours); exam review sessions; administering exams; and other duties as assigned.

Fellowships for On-Campus Students Only

Fellowships are awarded based on academic merit to help offset the costs of obtaining a graduate education.

  • Available to both newly admitted MBA students, as well as current degree-seeking MBA students.
  • Awarded to full-time students. At the graduate level, enrollment in nine credit hours is considered full-time.
  • Automatically awarded to the top MBA students based on academic record, including GMAT scores and GPA. Therefore, students do not need to complete a fellowship application to be considered.
  • Awarded beginning in March. In order to be considered, new students should submit their admissions application and materials by March 1st.
Fellowship Selection Criteria Fellowship Details
Chancellor's Fellowship
  • Newly admitted, full-time graduate students
  • Excellent academic record
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA in previous degree
  • Excellent letters of recommendation
  • Student must be offered a full department assistantship
  • Open to U.S. and international students
  • $4000/year, paid in 10 $400 monthly payments
  • Added to an assistantship that is renewable for up to two years
  • Automatically renewable for a second year, given excellent progress toward the degree
  • One Chancellor's Fellowship is available to an MBA student for the 2012-13 academic year
Edgren Tuition Fellowship
  • Newly admitted, full-time graduate students
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA in previous degree
  • Excellent letters of recommendation
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Students who receive this fellowship pay 150% of the resident tuition rate
  • Covers up to 12 credit hours during the fall and spring semester and 6 credit hours during the summer session
  • Students retain this fellowship until graduation if continuously enrolled
  • Not available to students who receive tuition remission from an assistantship, athletic scholarship, University employee/dependent scholarship, etc.
  • 15 Edgren Fellowships are available to MBA students for the 2012-13 academic year
MBA Fellowships
  • Newly admitted, full-time MBA students
  • Awarded to the top incoming MBA students based on a combination of GMAT score and undergraduate GPA
  • Open to U.S. and international students
  • $3000, paid in two $1500 installments applied directly to your student account at the beginning of the fall and spring semester
  • Non-renewable
  • Not available to students who receive tuition remission from an assistantship, athletic scholarship, University employee/dependent scholarship, etc.
  • The number of MBA fellowships available each year varies, but is approximately 10
  • Funds may not be available for spring semester applicants
Phillippe Fellowship
  • Newly admitted, full-time graduate students
  • Awarded to the top incoming MBA student(s) based on a combination of GMAT score and undergraduate GPA
  • Open to U.S. and international students
  • 1 – 2 Phillippe Fellowships are available each year depending upon available funds
  • Amount of the award varies, but is typically $5000 - $10,000 per year
  • Can be combined with an assistantship
Fling Fellowship
  • Open to any student admitted to a UNL graduate program
  • Students must be enrolled full-time (9 hours)
  • U.S. students must have completed 9 hours of graduate credit by December 31; international students must have completed 18 hours of graduate credit by December 31
  • $20,000 stipend
  • This award also includes tuition, fees, and the University's portion of the student health insurance
  • The number awarded varies each year depending upon funding, but is usually around four.
  • Apply through the Office of Graduate Studies
  • Applications are typically due Feb. 1st for the following academic year
  • Can be combined with an assistantship
  • Full-time, benefit-eligible employees of the University of Nebraska are not eligible
  • Master's students must be within one year of graduation
Dean's Fellowship
  • Open to any student admitted to a UNL graduate program
  • Students must be enrolled full-time (9 hours)
  • U.S. students must have completed 9 hours of graduate credit by December 31; international students must have completed 18 hours of graduate credit by December 31
  • Awarded to the remaining top 10% of the fellowship applicant pool
  • The number awards available and amounts of each award varies
  • Apply through the Office of Graduate Studies
  • Applications are typically due Feb. 1st for the following academic year
  • Can be combined with an assistantship
Helen and Robert Chancellor Fellowship
  • Current, full-time graduate students taking courses in law, business and psychology with the majority of coursework in business.
  • Students must have successfully completed a minimum 9 hours of graduate credit
  • Open to U.S. and international students
  • $2000 paid in one lump sum at the beginning of each academic year
  • Can be combined with an assistantship
  • Only one of these fellowships is awarded each year
Esther and Edward Hirsh Fellowship
  • Current, full-time graduate students taking courses in journalism, public relations, economics and general business administration
  • Students must have successfully completed a minimum 9 hours of graduate credit
  • Open to U.S. and international students
  • $2000 paid in one lump sum at the beginning of each academic year
  • Can be combined with an assistantship
  • Only one of these fellowships is awarded each year
Ellen Ann Qualsett Fellowship
  • Current, full-time MBA students
  • Awarded to non-traditional students who are returning to school after an absence to further their education
  • Preference is given to graduates of Nebraska High Schools
  • $2000 paid in one lump sum at the beginning of each academic year
  • Can be combined with an assistantship
  • The number of awards vary, but is at least two per year.
